After being locked in a deep freeze since the end of December, the end of the frigid temperatures in the region appears to be in sight. State climatologist Harry Hillaker says following another day of single-digit highs today, the air temperature is expected to slowly increase into next week.

“A gradual moderation in temperatures is expected to continue into next week, and perhaps – if we’re lucky – we might even get up to close to what’s normal this time of year by the middle to latter part of next week,” says Hillaker.

The National Weather forecast for Sunday calls for air temperatures around 20 degrees, though strong winds will generate sub-zero wind chills once again, while highs for the early part of next week are expected in the mid-to-upper 20s.
