Marion County Emergency Management Coordinator Jeff Anderson participated in a conference call this afternoon with the Des Moines National Weather Service and other emergency management departments from across the state. The call was in regards to severe weather expected to impact Iowa this week. Participants were informed that an Ice Storm Warning will likely be issued this afternoon and last through Thursday morning. At this time, it appears that portions of central Iowa are at the highest risk of ice accumulation. The storm is expected to begin delivering precipitation to southwest Iowa by 6:00 am Wednesday. It will then move northeast, with freezing rain expected in the Des Moines Metro area by 7 or 8 am. The storm is expected to weaken as it continues to move northeast into the evening hours on Thursday. For up to the minute winter weather updates tune in to KNIA/KRLS.
