Pella-native Haley Brillhart scored 13 points and pulled down a season-high 15 rebounds, but the sophomore’s third double-double of the season wasn’t enough to help the Central women’s basketball team break snap a long losing skid, as the Dutch fell 71-61 at Luther College on Saturday.

Luther started the game on a 7-0 run and never trailed, though Central pulled close several times in the contest, including within three points just before the half. However, turnovers and inside looks for the Norse rapidly expanded the lead back to ten points at the intermission. The Dutch were able to maintain or take small chunks out of that spread in the second half, but never made a serious run at the lead for the remainder of the game.

Joining Brillhart in double figures in the scoring column was freshman Alyssa Schwartz, who came off the bench to score 11 points, including three 3-pointers. Once again, poor shooting from the floor (33.3 percent) and too many turnovers (23) hurt the Central women’s chances to make a run at the lead.

The loss extends an unfortunate record for the Dutch, as they have fallen in a school record 15 consecutive games. Their season mark of 2-20 overall also puts them one loss shy of tying the season record for defeats – 21- set in the 2007-08 season. The Central women have three games left on the schedule, starting with Loras at home on Wednesday.
