Beginning Tuesday, agencies in Marion County will be making the switch from wideband to narrowband radio signals. With the exception of Pella, whose public safety agencies will make the switch on Thursday, all area fire and EMS agency signals will move to narrowband Tuesday, and all law enforcement agencies will switch on Wednesday. Emergency Management Coordinator Jeff Anderson says the only significant change for those who own scanners will be a small possible decrease in volume level, and no programming change will need to be made. Marion County received a $1.5 million grant for the narrowbanding, through the Iowa Statewide Interoperable Service Board’s Public Safety grant program.
