Two area girls basketball player have received recognition for their efforts this season. Knoxville’s Sam Abens has been named to the Des Moines Register’s all-state third team. Abens led the Panthers to a 23-2 record and their first entry into the class 3A state tournament since 1975. Abens also finished as the all-time leading scorer in Knoxville school history in the five-on-five era. Another player to make first team all-state in class 1A was Lindsay Hoehns. Hoehns became only the fourth girls in Iowa five-on-five history to score 2,000 points and grab 1,000 rebounds.
