Those who were on the outside looking in on the Knoxville Girls Basketball squad likely would have not predicted a 23-2 season and a trip to the state tournament. Coach Jim Utiermarkt would never have predicted that kind of season either. He says there were good players coming in but for the most part they came off the bench last year and were thrown into starting roles this season. He says players like Bethany Just, Tess Edwards, and Katie Ayers were able to show what they could do all season. Ayers will return to play the post next season and Alex Abens will be back for her senior season at point guard. Utiermarkt says with Abens returning there will be an experienced ball handler to run the offense.
