The Knoxville City Council approved the 2010-2011 city budget at their special session this week. At the meeting, City Manager Dick Schrad presented the board with a breakdown of how money from city levies is distributed. Based on the average home value of $90,000, a Knoxville resident would pay $1.76 per day in property tax levy. Of that $1.76, 81 cents goes to the police department, 28 cents to general government, 23 cents to the public library and 20 cents to the recreation center. The levy also pays for cemetery, fire, parks, debt service, streetlights and economic development. All of which are under a dime per day.
