Behind eight strong innings on the mound by sophomore Corey Eisenmann, the Central College baseball team opened the Iowa Conference schedule with a convincing 7-1 home win over Wartburg. Eisenmann allowed seven hits, struck out four, and allowed just one walk to the Knights, while out-dueling Wartburg’s Billy Schmitt, who was last week’s co-National Pitcher of the Week.

The Dutch were balanced at the plate, as seven players got a hit, and six recorded an RBI. Central faces Wartburg again today for a pair of seven-inning contests, and Head Coach Adam Stevens says the team will need to continue to be aggressive at the plate against the strong pitching of the Knights.

Central is 10-4 overall, while Wartburg is now 6-9 on the season. The first pitch of today’s doubleheader is slated for 1:00 p.m. at the A.N. Kuyper Athletic Complex in Pella. You can hear live coverage of the game on 92.1 fm KRLS, with Eric Gotschall providing the call, starting at 12:45 p.m.
