A two-hit shutout from pitcher Kiley Lythberg led the Central College softball team past Wisconsin-Eau Claire 2-0 last night in the NFCA Division III Classic. The Dutch got two runs in the first inning and held on from their behind Lythberg’s strong performance from the circle.

Earlier on Saturday, the 20th-ranked Dutch ended pool play at the 24-team event with a 9-6 loss to No. 14 Christopher Newport (Virginia). Central’s 1-2 record in pool play earned them a place in the 8-team Silver Bracket, with last night’s win earning the Dutch a chance to face St. Thomas (Minnesota) once again Sunday morning. Central defeated the Tommies 3-2 in pool play on Friday.

Central will wrap up tournament action in Panama City, Florida Sunday afternoon.
