Students at Knoxville’s GOAL school were taught a traditional Japanese children’s song yesterday morning as they visited with their new international friends. Twenty students from Tokyo, Japan’s Toyo Eiwa High School are in Knoxville today and spent the morning teaching the alternative students about Japanese culture, how to do origami and write their names in kanji. The GOAL students in turn shared information about America and alternative schools with their visitors. The students were accompanied by their teacher Kyl Timmer, who is the brother of GOAL teacher Sheri Roslien and has taught in Japan for over 20 years. Overall, the visit was very successful and the unique opportunity resulted in positive interaction between the students. After their time at the school the Japanese students toured the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame and Museum.
