A group of musicians from Newton who perform music from the 1860s will bring their act to Pella Thursday evening. The Jasper Grays Civil War Singers dress in clothing that is historically accurate for the Civil War era and perform a variety of musical pieces from the time period.

The group’s members are Barry Hurto (keyboard and vocals), John Keller (fiddle and vocals), and vocalists Gary Kopsa and Larry Hurto. The historical Jasper Grays were the first company to leave Jasper County for the Civil War, on July 9, 1861. It is thought that they wore gray uniforms – even though they were from a northern unit – to emulate the cadets of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, New York.

The Jasper Grays concert is open to the public at no cost and will be held Thursday at 7:00 p.m. at the Pella Public Library on Main Street.
