The Knoxville School Board was presented with a list of opportunities for reductions in expenditures at their meeting Monday night. The list included two levels, one pertaining to the amount of money that would be saved through personnel costs if one of the three elementary schools was close, the other was other miscellaneous reductions. For example, in level one, by closing an elementary building the district would save $103,513 by eliminating a principal, over a quarter of a million dollars by eliminating 5 teacher positions and $112,769 by cutting 5 associate positions. The district would also save money by eliminating additional associate positions in the remaining schools and not replacing some positions that have been vacated due to early retirement. The second of two public hearings on the budget and future use of buildings in the Knoxville School District will be held on Monday at 6pm in the Knoxville High School library.
