Beginning Monday, Knoxville Schools will be hosting “Students, Start Your Engines”, a campaign to stress the importance of school breakfast. The program is sponsored by the Iowa Speedway, National Sprint Car Hall of Fame, Casey’s General Stores, Morning Kiwanis and Knoxville Team Nutrition.

Students and staff at each school in the district will enjoy a free breakfast together one day during the week. The Iowa Speedway will also bring an official Pace Car to the events and have drivers present to visit with children and help with prize drawings throughout the week. Casey’s General Stores is donating breakfast pizza for elementary students and the Knoxville Morning Kiwanis club will serve middle and high school students a pancake breakfast.

The National School Breakfast Week was established in 1989 and raises awareness about the importance of eating a good breakfast and how it contributes to academic achievement and healthy lifestyles.
