President Barack Obama signed a health care reform bill Tuesday that will bring near-universal coverage to America. Local Senator Paul McKinley is not in favor of the bill and says from what he understands it will dramatically increase spending and reduce availability. He adds that 20-35 million Americans will be added to healthcare and is concerned about who will pay for it. Marion County Democratic Party Chair Pat Van Zante says overall, it may not be perfect, but she thinks the health care reform bill is a step in the right direction. She adds that some people are upset about the Federal Government requiring people to buy insurance, but would like to remind people that the government also requires consumers to pay for seat belts and airbags in new cars and has for many years.
