New Engine Rules At Knoxville Raceway

In an attempt to make racing more affordable for its 410 class, the Knoxville Raceway has legalized new displacement criteria for engines. According to Competition Director John McCoy, Knoxville will allow 435 cubic inch engines with certain restrictions. McCoy says this gives drivers who cannot afford a new 410 motor which costs around $45,000 to use these larger, less expensive motors and still stay competitive with the larger teams. McCoy says the hope of the Knoxville Raceway is that other tracks get on board with this and returns racing to where it used to be when the drivers built the engines with help from the local machine shop. He adds the drivers who use these motors will gain between 50-and-70 more horsepower. He says it may not win a race at Knoxville but these motors can be a good starter motor or a back up.
