The Pella boys had a great start to their season with several strong performances at three indoor meets, now they shift their attention to the outdoors and all signs point to what should be an outstanding season. Coach Brent Van Hauen says they have several strong runners that can help them in multiple events. Brett Bogaard is one of the top sprinters in the state in both the 100 and 200 but also will be a big part of several Little Dutch relay teams. Zach Wittenberg who was part of Pella’s state championship Cross Country squad in the fall is one of the top returning distance runners in the state and will also compete in relays including the medley, 4×400 and 4×800 and Richie Bales is healthy and will be very strong in the 400, but can also fill in several other areas as well. Van Hauen also noted several other athletes he’s excited about including Jon Klein in distance races, Todd Wegter who will help in relays, Jordan Youngman who will throw the shotput, Mark Frommelt and Matt Meyers in short sprints, he also says Austin King is showing good speed and Aaron Mason and Chris Meyers are showing improvements in field events. He says overall they return a lot of talent and experience from last season and he thinks that experience will carry them a long ways this Spring. Pella opens their outdoor season Friday at Winterset.
