Pella Christian is hoping for a successful boys track season this spring, and they’re building around a core of middle-distance runners who found success last season as sophomores and juniors. Eagles Head Coach Max Killoren says the squad’s 4×800-meter relay team – which placed 21st at the State Track Meet last spring – has set a goal for themselves to qualify for the Drake Relays.

“We talked about this all winter long, and they’ve worked hard in getting into shape and focusing in on that race,” said Killoren. “Just getting our middle-distance ready to run that – we’ve got do that early, because qualifying time comes up real quick. But we’re going to take a shot at it and see where we go.”

The team consists of juniors Skyler Giddings and Josh Meyer and seniors Devin Veenstra and Zach Vos. Qualifying for the annual track and field showcase will be difficult, though, as Pella Christian will run in just a handful of meets before the April 14th deadline for high school athletes to qualify for the Drake Relays.
