A third grade teacher at Pella Christian Grade School is the latest winner of the Ulrich Ford, Lincoln, Mercury Radio Teacher of the Month Award. Brenda Olsthoorn has been teaching for 26 years at Pella Christian Grade School, and was nominated for her attentiveness to individual student progress, among other qualities.

Olsthoorn has spent the majority of her life in Pella, having attended school herself at Pella Christian. She says her students are amused that she attended first grade in the room she currently teaches in.

Below is a copy of the nomination letter that earned Mrs. Olsthoorn the honor.

“I would like to honor teacher Brenda Olsthoorn of Pella Christian Grade School for a deserving Teacher of the Month. She has dedicated 26 years to teaching at the same school system she learned at, and is the proud mother of two children in Pella. She currently teaches my daughter in the 3rd grade.

My daughter has blossomed this year because of her teaching and patience. She always e-mails progress made and takes extra time and a loving attitude with each and every child; and one can tell she really cares and thinks of her students individually and tailors her methods for each one.

All of us have one teacher we fondly recall, who really was a turning point in our lives, and this year I believe our daughter is learning so much because of Mrs. Olsthoorn. She truly deserves being honored with this nomination.”
