The heavy snowfall this winter and more precipitation this past weekend continues to keep the ground saturated, and while it is no doubt creating potential concerns for flooding, the very wet soil may also hinder farming activities this spring. State Climatologist Harry Hillaker says the area would need to see at least a week of dry, warmer weather to help dry out the fields and possibly allow some work to be done.

However, Hillaker says the good news is that there does not appear to be noticeable precipitation in the forecast for the near future, and also says that the early snowfall and heavy snow pack also prevented frost from going deep into the ground, which should also help the soil to dry as the frost melts away.
