Warmer Weather Makes for Messy Gravel Roads

Posted By News On March 2, 2010 @ 6:22 am In Today’s Local News | Comments Disabled

As the weather warms up and snow melts, gravel roads turn from a hard frozen surface to a soft wet mess. According to the Marion County Engineer’s Office, in order to combat the roads losing their integrity, they will be hauling approximately 39,000 tons of rock in the next six to eight weeks. Road crews will use two belly dumps, eight tandem axle trucks and eight single axle trucks to get the job done and should be able to haul approximately 1,400 tons a day. The engineer’s office says they cannot be everywhere at once, but hope to address the areas most in need by May 1st.
