Most local scheduled events were cancelled or postponed yesterday, however the rain didn’t stop the Drake Relays, and despite the wet, sometimes miserable conditions, it was a successful day for area athletes on the “ Blue Oval”.

Pella’s Brett Bogaard qualified for the finals in the 100 meter dash and finished seventh overall with a time of 11.50 and earns the first Drake Relays medal for a Pella boys runner since 2003, two more area events are guaranteed to bring home medals today as the Pella girls 4×400 team of Nadine Van Zomeren, Kati Sunderman, Maddy Davis and Marielle Gaiser set a new school record yesterday and qualified for today’s final with their time of 4:03.54 and the Knoxville boys 4×400 team of Austin Houser, Alex Edwards, Reed Long and Harlyn Sytsma also qualified for today’s finals with their time of 3:25.02. The girls final will be at 5:41pm and the boys follow at 5:49pm.

In other action yesterday at Drake, Lindsay Hoehns of Twin Cedars finished 12th in the long jump, the Knoxville boys medley finished 13th, and their 4×200 was 22nd, and the Pella girls, PCM girls, Knoxville boys and PCM boys all competed in the 4×100 relay but were unable to qualify those events for the finals.

Today’s schedule includes the Knoxville and Pella boys competing in the 4×800 relay just after 11am, Zach Wittenberg of Pella runs the 1600 just after 2:20pm and the Pella girls and Knoxville boys close the day in the 4×400 finals.
