At approximately 7:50 this morning Knoxville’s East Elementary Principal Mike Montgomery received a report of a student with an authentic looking rifle near school property. It was reported that the student was on property across the street from the school pointing a gun at students as they arrived. Montgomery contacted the Knoxville Police Department who sent an officer to the scene to accompany Montgomery as he approached the student’s residence.
After evaluating the situation it was determined that the weapon was a soft pellet gun and was not in working condition. School officials stress that at no time was anyone in danger. Knoxville Police Chief Dan Losada tells KNIA/KRLS news the student is a 9 year-old male with a toy M-16 look alike (see image above). The juvenile is being charged with 3 counts of assault and has also been suspended from school.
