Players, cheerleaders and coaches for the 38th annual 2010 Shrine Bowl All Star football game were introduced yesterday during a media day at the Za-Ga-Zig Shrine Temple in Altoona and Pella senior Blaine Forsythe will be a member of the South squad. The annual Shrine Bowl features the top senior players from across the state of Iowa split into two squads, the North and South and serves as the top annual fundraiser for the Shriners Children’s Hospitals. Forsythe who played quarterback, punter and kicker and some defensive back in high school, helped lead Pella to their highest finish ever, runners up in Class 3A this past Fall and plans to attend Augustana in South Dakota to play football next fall. During his senior campaign at Pella, Forsythe threw for 1766 yards and 18 touchdowns and was the second leading rusher on the team with 454 yards and four touchdowns.
Forsythe was accompanied by his parents David and Lori, as well as Pella football coach Jay Mckinstrey at the Media Day event. The South squad will be coached by Bob McCoy of Bedford while the North squad will be hedaed by Roger Jansen of Sioux Cith Heelan. The 38th annual Shrine Bowl will be played Saturday July 24th at Jack Trice Stadium in Ames.
