An opportunity for Marion County residents to dispose of a variety of household chemicals will be held Saturday morning in Pella. The Household Hazardous Waste collection is being sponsored by the South Central Iowa Solid Waste Agency, and will allow residents the chance to safely dispose of materials such as cleaning supplies, oil-based paints, and pesticides.

Jeanette Vaughan, Administrative Specialist with the Pella Public Works Department, says while most items will be accepted, there are certain things that should not be brought to the collection.

“Definitely some things you don’t want to bring out are latex paint, anti-freeze, any type of medical waste or drugs, and no auto batteries or motor oil,” said Vaughan.

The Household Hazardous Waste collection will be held Saturday – rain or shine – from 9:00 a.m. to noon at the Pella Public Works Complex on Truman Road.
