The Pella Christian girls’ soccer team won its first game of the season in a big way with a 9-0 win over Centerville last night as seven different girls scored goals. Ashton Verschuure gave the Eagles all the scoring they would need as she scored two goals to start the game but the Eagles didn’t stop there however as they scored three more first-half goals by Jenna Fynaardt , , Jeanna Janssen, and Lexi Warden. Scoring in the second half were Christina Nolte, Karianne Bolt and Buffy Bouwkamp. Centerville even helped the cause heading a ball into its own net for the ninth Eagle goal. Abbey DeBruin made five saves in goal to record the shutout. Shelby Sytsma and Kayla Groenendyk led the Eagle defense with 23 and 22 defensive stops, respectively. Pella Christian is now 1-3 on the season and returns to LHC action tonight hosting Knoxville.

The Pella Christian boys soccer team wasn’t so fortunate last night as they fell at home to Perry 6-1. Dan Hessing scored the lone goal for the Eagles in the second half. Goalkeeper Nathaniel Terpstra was busy all night long and recorded 14 saves. Pella Christian fell to 1-4 on the season and will look to get back on track at Knoxville tonight.
