It took nearly 23 minutes for the Pella girls soccer team to record their first goal of the season, but then the floodgates opened, as the Little Dutch routed host Oskaloosa 5-1 last night. Morgan Elzinga punched in that first score and added two more unassisted goals in the second half to earn a hat trick, while also adding an assist on the last score of the game. Pella’s other goals came from Jessica Van Wyk and Beth Van Wyk. Oskaloosa’s only score came in the 30th minute of the first half.

The Pella girls dominated the stat sheet, besting Oskaloosa 29-1 in total shots and 19-1 in shots on goal; while taking 17 corner kicks, compared with none for Oskaloosa. The defense for the Little Dutch also made for a quiet day for goalkeeper Kelsey Fynaart, who had no saves in the game. The Pella girls are now 1-1 overall and travel to Urbandale tomorrow for a tournament that will match them up with 2-A No. 1 Ankeny and host Urbandale.
