After running into Class 2-A powerhouses Ankeny and Urbandale last weekend, the Pella girls soccer team may have needed a little time off to recover, and that’s exactly what they’ve gotten this week. In a week free of scheduled competition, the Lady Dutch have been able to spend plenty of time on the practice field; time that Head Coach Sam Mate-Kodjo says will allow his team to focus on improving weaknesses that were exposed last weekend.

“Both games [last weekend] the girls played really well, played their hearts out. A lot of hard running and effort, but we still need some tactical intuition,” said Mate-Kodjo. “So we’ll practice finishing, we’ll practice support defense, and we’ll practice overlap runs down the sides. I think we’ve been playing too much in the middle of the field, so we’ll practice that too.”

The Pella girls soccer team is 1-3 overall this season and 1-1 in Little Hawkeye Conference play, with three matches coming up in the next five days.
