Pella Wins Boys And Girls Titles At Panther Relays

Pella swept the titles in the 46th Panther Relays yesterday in Knoxville. The boys race came down to one event as Pella compiled 156 points to Knoxville’s 145. The event was the four-by-200 were Knoxville was disqualified for dropping the baton while leading on the final exchange. The Little Dutch were able to get several more victories during the day including, Matt Meyers in the long jump, Brett Bogaard took top honors in the 100 and 200, Jace Versteeg won the 110 hurdles, Zach Wittenberg took gold in the 1600. Also winning for Pella was the four-by-800 in a new meet record, the shuttle hurdle relay, and the four-by-400 also in a new meet record. Knoxville got two first place finishes from Alex Edwards in the 400 and 800. Pella Christian wound in a fifth place tie with Grinnell scoring 42 points and getting a victory in the 1600 medley relay. On the girls side, Pella won comfortably over Twin cedars 147-111. Knoxville took third place with 84 points, Pella Christian was fifth with 65, and Melcher-Dallas was eighth with 20 points. Pella’s Nadine VanZomeren won the 100 while Maddy Davis easily won the 800. Pella also took first in the four-by-800, distance medley, sprint medley, and four-by-400. Knoxville had three individual second place finishes as Katie Ayers was runner-up in the discus while Alissa Van Klootwyk was second in the 1500 and 3000. Twin Cedars got three victories from Lindsay Hoehns as she won the long jump, 400, and 200. Brianna Wimmer won the 100 hurdles. The Sabers also picked up a win in the shuttle hurdle, and Melcher-Dallas’s Delaney Jensen won the 1500.
