Now that the weather is finally warming up, many people in Marion County will begin burning off dead grass and plants on their properties, which if not attended can result in disastrous grass fires. Marion County Communications Director Martha Dykstra says that before residents light fire to anything, they notify the County Communications Center. She says this gives them a heads up about the controlled burn and prevents area fire and rescue departments from getting paged out unnecessarily. Dykstra adds that if you spot a burn that looks out of control or unattended to notify the Communications Center by calling 641-828-2220.
