In light of Severe Weather Awareness week, MidAmerican Energy wants to remind customers of the following tips to stay safe around electricity.

If you see a downed line always assume it is energized and don’t go near it.

If you lose power to your home during a storm, check your fuses and circuit breakers and then call MidAmerican at 800-799-4443

Be prepared with fresh batteries in flashlights and lanterns for use during emergencies.

Never assume someone else has reported a power outage. If you lose power during a storm call MidAmerican.

Be aware of your surroundings and electrical lines and equipment. Use caution when cleaning out rain gutters and trimming trees.

Make sure no electrical lines are nearby or touching gutters or tree limbs.

Never use a grill, space heater or portable generator inside to heat your home.
