As we told you earlier the Pella boys track team tied a school record by qualifying 15 events for this week’s State Track and Field Meet , most of which were expected, but there are a few pleasant surprises amongst the qualifiers.
At the start of the season one area of weakness for the Little Dutch was the field events, but Coach Brent Van Hauen says a couple seniors, Aaron Mason and Matt “Bubba” Meyers stepped up to help the team, found their calling, and are headed to state . Mason was a long jumper for Pella last year and qualified in the high jump this year while Meyers just voluntarily stepped into the long jump a couple meets into the season and has been very strong. The State Track and Field Meet gets underway Thursday at Drake Stadium in Des Moines.
