After loading the bases with an error, a hit batsman and a two-out walk, Central College pitcher Corey Eisenmann hurled three straight called strikes to secure a 5-4 victory for the Dutch baseball team over Iowa Conference leader Buena Vista University. Central got a boost on offense from Jarred Lackey, Mike Furlong and Josh Stanton, who all slammed home runs in the victory, while Joel Pulliam improved is record on the mound to 5-1 this season with seven solid innings that included six strikeouts; and Eisenmann notched his first save of the season.
The win improves Central to 26-12 overall, which matches its season victories record, and also strengthened the team’s position for a high seed in the six-team Iowa Conference tournament on May 13-15 in Cedar Rapids. The Dutch currently are in third place in the standings, but other Iowa Conference teams still have weekend series remaining on their schedules. Central has one last game to play, a recently-added non-conference contest at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday at Grinnell College, which will help the Dutch avoid a long layoff before the conference tournament.
