After finishing the 2010 season with a record-breaking 27 wins, the Central College baseball team has broken another school record, by landing seven players on the All-Iowa Conference team. The previous high for all-conference selections was six, which happened in 1985 and 1986. Those selected were: designated hitter Caleb Rangel, pitchers Joel Pulliam and Corey Eisenmann, second baseman Ben Tressel, third baseman Anthony Miller, shortstop Mike Furlong and outfielder Jarred Lackey. All seven were second-team all-conference picks.

Rangel was honored for the third time. Also an outfielder and pitcher, Rangel saw extended action as a DH following a hand injury. He was a first-team all-conference pick last year after receiving honorable mention in 2008. He batted .313 with 28 runs scored, seven doubles, two triples and 23 RBIs. Rangel posted a 4-2 record as a pitcher.

Furlong was a first-team selection a year ago. He led the Dutch with a .401 average, topping the .400 mark for the second straight year. He scored a school-record 57 runs with 63 hits, the second-most in school history. Furlong had eight doubles, a team-high four triples, six homers, 36 RBIs and a team-leading 17 stolen bases while posting a .903 fielding percentage.

Lackey was a second-team choice in 2009 as well. He batted .399 and his 63 hits are the fourth-most in school history. He set a school season record with 52 RBIs and is tied for sixth in career RBIs with 106. Lackey scored 42 runs with 10 doubles, two triples and a team-high eight homers. He also stole 12 bases. Lackey is fourth in career RBIs with 116.

Eisenmann was a second-team pick for the second time. He compiled a 6-3 record with one save and a 4.41 earned run average. He made 11 starts with two complete games and threw a team-high 69.1 innings. Eisenmann yielded 79 hits with 24 walks and 34 strikeouts.

Central’s three other all-conference honorees were first-time selections.

Pulliam fashioned a 5-2 record with a 3.91 ERA. He made eight starts with two complete games, including a shutout, and threw 46 innings. Pulliam gave up 39 hits and 27 walks while striking out 39 batters.

Tressel hit .346 with 42 runs scored, five doubles, one triple, two home runs and 24 RBIs. He drew 26 walks, the third-most in school history, and posted a .945 fielding percentage. Tressel leaves Central ranking first in career runs scored (150) and second in career hits (180).

Miller hit .320 with 39 runs scored, seven doubles, one triple, one homer and 35 RBIs. He compiled a .903 fielding percentage.

Under coach Adam Stevens, the Dutch, who were picked for sixth in the league prior to the season, finished third with a 15-8 conference mark.
