Impressive performances at last weekend’s Iowa Conference outdoor track and field championships earned a pair of Central College athletes weekly conference honors. Iowa Conference men’s track and field co-MVPs Kurtis Brondyke and Ethan Miller were named co-winners of the league’s male athlete of the week award, marking the 13th consecutive week that a member of the Central men’s track squad has earned the recognition.

Brondyke and Miller led the Dutch to a second straight outdoor conference title by scoring a league-high 36.5 points apiece for Central.

The Central College men’s and women’s track and field squads won six events in their final home meet of the spring, with yesterday’s Last Chance Open. Matt Graber led the Dutch with an NCAA provisional-qualifying performance in the shot put. His mark of 52 feet, 4.75 inches was good for first place, but he was unable to improve on his season’s best of 54-7.25 which is currently ranked 11th in Division III.

Logan Danko took the 100 meters (10.87 seconds), whileTrevor Veach won the 200 meters (22.84 seconds). Matt Patrick was first in the 400 meters (49.44 seconds) while the men’s 4×100 relay unit of Mitch Morris, Danko, Wood, and Allen Scovel won in 42.06 seconds.

Felicia Coleman finished first (26.08 seconds) in an all-Central 200-meter dash competition. Central’s athletes will have one more chance to reach NCAA qualifying marks today and tomorrow at the North Central Gregory Invitational in Naperville, Illinois. The Division III Championship meet will be held May 27-29 in Cleveland, Ohio.
