May 9th through 15th is recognized as National Police Week, a time to recognize the law enforcement officers that have been killed or injured in the line of duty. Knoxville Mayor Don Zoutte read a proclamation at the May 3rd City Council meeting recognizing the week. The proclamation calls on all citizens of Knoxville and all patriotic, civil and educational organizations to commemorate police officers, past and present who by their faithful and loyal devotion to their responsibilities have rendered a dedicated service to their communities. Knoxville Police Chief Dan Losada says each year a very touching ceremony is held during police week in Washington DC. The week of celebration caps off on Saturday with Peace Officers Memorial Day.
