The Marion County Sheriff’s Office, in conjunction with the Governor’s Traffic Safety Bureau, Iowa State Patrol and Pella Police Department will be conducting a traffic safety checkpoint Saturday evening in Pella. The purpose of the checkpoint is to reinforce safe driving practices and coincides with the “click-it-or-ticket” campaign. Law enforcement says the checkpoint is as much about education as it is about enforcement. A variety of resources will be on hand, including educational materials.

Vehicles stopped in the checkpoint can expect to be investigated by officers to determine whether licensing, registration and vehicle inspection requirements are being observed. Additionally, other general matters related to public safety will be addressed.

The traffic safety checkpoint will be conducted in the 2600 block of West Washington Street in Pella from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Saturday. Motorists are urged to exercise special care when driving in the area. Uniformed officers, official vehicles and warning signs will be on display in the area to inform motorists of the impending intrusion.
