The Park Rangers at Lake Red Rock are offering a pair of programs this weekend aimed at young outdoor adventurers. Park Ranger Tracy Spry will lead a “mucking” expedition at one of the lake area wetlands, meeting at the North Overlook Campground at 2:00 p.m. Saturday. The activity will provide an “up-close” look at the tiny creatures that live in the wetlands. Participants are encouraged to wear old shoes and clothing, and any needed equipment will be provided.
In the evening, Spry will also host a “Creatures of the Night” hike beginning at 9:00 p.m. and starting at the Wallashuck Campground. The walk will take participants along a woodland trail looking – and listening – for clues of nocturnal wildlife. Those taking part are encouraged to bring a flashlight. The hike will last approximately an hour. For more information on either program, call 628-8690 or 828-7522.
