Pella Christian will be among the track and field squads from the area that will begin action at the State Meet today in Des Moines. The Eagles’ boys squad will compete in four of their eight qualifying events today, including Chase Carlson in the 100 and 200 Meter Dash preliminaries, along with a prelim for the 4×800 Meter Relay. Pella Christian Head Coach Max Killoren says they weren’t always so sure they would have so many qualifiers for the State Meet.

“We were looking at the [1600 Meter] Medley, and possibly the 4×100 and 4×800 [Meter Relays] and that was pretty much about it,” said Killoren. “But as the season progressed, the kids just bought into the workout program and just came along extremely well.”

Also running today for the Pella Christian boys will be Zach Vos in the 400 Meter Dash finals. On the girls’ side, Pella Christian’s Jasmin Schelhaas competes today in the 400 Meter Dash as well. Click here for a complete schedule of today’s events featuring local athletes.
