Truly peaking at just the right time, the Pella Christian boys track and field team put on an impressive showing at the Class 2-A, District 6 track meet in Ogden; finishing in second place in the team standings. Not only the the Pella Christian boys score well as a team, but they qualified a total of eight events for next week’s State Track Meet. Four of those qualifications came via first-place finishes, including a school record 8:09.53 in the 4×800 Meter Relay. That squad, which includes Zach Vos, Skyler Giddings, Josh Meyer and Devin Veenstra, broke the existing school mark by nearly ten seconds.

Other wins for the Eagles came from Chase Carlson in the 200 Meter Dash and in the 4×100 Meter and 1600 Meter Medley Relays. Carlson and Vos also added individual second-place finishes in the 100 and 400 meters, respectively, along with a silver medal for Skylar Giddings in the 1600 Meter Run. Josh Meyer finished third in the 800 Meter Run to round out the eight State Meet qualifiers for the Pella Christian Boys. Pella Christian’s 89 points tied them for second place with I-35, Truro, with Bondurant-Farrar’s 115 points taking first place in the team standings. In all, seven athletes qualified in the eight events for the Eagles, with six of the seven qualifying in two or more events. The events, athletes and placings are listed below.

The Pella Christian girls have one, sure-fire qualifier for the State Track Meet, following last night’s Regional Meet in Ogden. The Eagles’ 4×100 meter relay team ran a school-record 51.92 to place first and earn a trip to State. That team is comprised of Sarah Faber, Jasmin Schelhaas, Kate Van Gilst and Emily Van Gelder. The Lady Eagles placed eighth in the 12-team region with 48 points; while Gilbert dominated with 154 team points, 65 ahead of second-place North Polk. The Pella Christian girls also had two third place finishes that could potentially qualify for one of the remaining wild-card bids in the State Meet field. The remaining qualifiers will be chosen, based on time, and released this evening.

Other strong finishes for the Pella Christian girls included Jasmin Schelhaas in the 400 Meter Dash, placing third with a 59.94; and Sarah Brandsen, who finished third in the 3000 Meter Run with a personal-best 11:33.77. The Lady Eagles also accomplished personal records with Abigail Fincel in the 800 Meter Run, Michaela Martin in the 1600 Meter Run and the Sprint Medley and 4×400 Meter Relays.
