In a fitting end to an impressive conference season, the Pella girls tennis team claimed the Little Hawkeye Conference crown yesterday in Pella. The Lady Dutch scored 42 points in the team standings to edge out Pella Christian by six points. The Knoxville girls tennis team finished in sixth place. The Pella girls scored nearly three quarters of their points by earning wins in No. 1 flight singles and No. 1 flight doubles, with third-seeded Hillary Nossaman defeating fourth-seeded Heather Krumm in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2 to take first place.

In the first flight of the doubles bracket, Pella’s tandem of Nicole Oliver and Marah Bossard gutted out a third-set tiebreaker win over the Pella Christian’s top-seeded duo of Aubree Else and Megan Van Kooten with the scores going 6-1, 7-6, and 7-4 in the tiebreaker. Knoxville earned third place in the same bracket by defeating Oskaloosa to make it a Marion County sweep for the top three places.

Pella Christian also performed well in the No. 2 flight doubles, as the team of Kayla DeBruin and Renae DeBruin downed Grinnell 6-3, 6-1.while Pella Christian’s strengths came in doubles play, as they were runner-up to Pella in the first flight and claimed first place in the second flight.
