The Pella girls tennis team hosts an invitational this morning on their home courts. The Pella Invite will feature a round-robin format, and Head Coach Margene VanHorn says she also likes the scoring format, which places an emphasis on winning each game of a set to score team points; something she says keeps the team focused on playing hard all the time.

“Even if you’re down in a set, if you can focus enough, you can come back and take those sets,” VanHorn says she tells her players, “and that’s what that format does for us. We just really stress to them: every point, every game, and before you know it you’re on the winning side of the column. It’s just a good trainer for us, [and] it’s kind of a mental trainer, actually.”

The Pella invite starts at 8:00 a.m. this morning on the courts at Caldwell Park in Pella.
