The Knoxville School Board discussed the district’s wellness policy at their meeting Tuesday evening. Superintendent Dr. Flack says the policy has been amended to make sure the district is in line with the healthy food act that was passed through the U.S. legislature. Flack says this does not result in a lot of changes for the district, they just have to make sure they are following the specific guidelines as far as the amount of things such as sodium, calories and sugar in the foods served and available in the schools. He says this primarily affects the high school. In addition, the school will no longer be able to have unhealthy snacks or beverages available in vending machines during the school day.
