A cooking contest featuring two Dutch specialties was held Monday evening in the Pella Historical Village. Organized by the Tulip Time Steering committee, the contest featured the Dutch dish “Hutspot” and the always popular Dutch letters.

There were four entries in the hutspot contest, with Linda Roose’s recipe selected as the favorite by the panel of judges and Annie Hedrick taking second place. There were over a dozen entries of Dutch letters, with McKenzie Doren and Whitney Pavlat winning the Junior Division, and Nathaniel Reams placing second. In the senior Division, Amy Bandstra claimed the top prize, with Marie Vander Wert’s Dutch letters placing second.

Tulip Time Steering Committee member Brenda Ver Steeg headed up the event, with additional help from Kate Hoksbergen, Bonnie Verberg, Desha Bruxvoort, Janice Brown and Sharon Brown.
