Though some guests have already been in Pella for a few days, community leaders and Tulip Time dignitaries are welcoming visitors from near and far to the Tulip City for the 75th Annual festival. 2010 Tulip Queen Heidi Schulte says she and the members of the Royal Court are sharing information on the many aspects of Tulip Time with visitors to the community.

“We talk about the people and about the activities – like Dutch dancing and street scrubbing – and the programs that we have.” said Schulte. “We talk about the food and the tulips; [and] we talk about the history and why this is such a special place to live.”

Pella mayor Darrell Dobernecker adds that the community is happy to again welcome guests for the annual event and share three days of family-friendly entertainment.

“We enjoy hosting the event – it’s one of the first events after a long, hard winter, and it gives people a chance to get out and enjoy what we have to offer,” says Dobernecker, “whether its just watching parades or visiting in various parks, just whatever it might be, it’s a good, clean family event which I think anyone – no matter what age – can enjoy.”

KNIA/KRLS will be broadcasting live from the Big Red Radio on Main Street in Pella for all three days of the festival.
