The Knoxville School Board approved the plans and bidding process for upcoming improvements to the historic Ken Locke Stadium at their meeting Monday. The Save Our Stadium Committee has received plans to add 200 seats to each side of the west or “home” side of the stadium. Superintendent Dr. Randy Flack says though it is the goal, it may be difficult to get the project done before the football season begins this fall. Due to the fact that bids will not be approved until mid-July and if the current weather pattern continues he expects further delays in the addition. Flack says the new seats will look similar to those that are currently in place at the stadium but will not have some of the same details because the state historical society wants to make sure people are clear about what the historical segment of the structure is, and what has been added. The stadium improvements will be paid for through SOS funds.
