As of July 1st all liquor license applicants in Knoxville will be responsible for submitting their own record check in order to be approved. Currently, Police Chief Dan Losada is responsible for verification of each applicant’s records through the Knoxville Police Department records and Iowa Courts Online. Losada says this is a timely process that may not reveal every violation that would disqualify a business from obtaining or renewing their license. Beginning next month all applicants will be required to submit an original or notarized copy of an Iowa Department of Criminal Investigation record check of each person named on the liquor license. DCI charges $13 per person to provide the record check service. Losada says this will have no financial impact on the city but will speed up the process and free him up from having to sort through the information.
