The Knoxville Fire and Rescue Department, Marion County Public Health, Pizza Hut, Safe Kids Iowa and State Farm Insurance teamed up last week to “Deliver Fire Prevention”. Local firefighters delivered pizzas to Knoxville residents and checked to make sure their smoke detectors were working properly. Diane Ellis from Marion County Public Health tells KNIA/KRLS news the event was well received by the community. She says the majority of houses they visited had working smoke alarms in place but they were able to replace some batteries and out of date alarms. Ellis says the event was highly successful overall and the fire department and Pizza Hut have expressed that they would like to repeat the event in the fall when folks are encouraged to change the batteries in their smoke alarms.
