Lake Red Rock Crests Ahead of Schedule
Posted By News On June 25, 2010 @ 10:54 am In Today’s Local News | Comments Disabled
With no rainfall in the past 24 hours the water level at Lake Red Rock appears to be receding. As of 11:00 a.m. Friday, the conservation pool had dropped slightly since earlier in the morning to 776.75 feet, and is expected to continue to decline in the next 24 hours. The latest report from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers also estimates a reduction of the in-flow to 40,000 cubic feet per second – the same rate as the out-flow at the dam. It appears that the high-water mark came ahead of what had been forecast, when the Lake crested at 776.77 feet early Friday morning.
Howell Station Campground will be closed until further notice due to river levels. The North and South Tailwater Recreation Areas below the dam remain open at this time.
Boat ramps that are currently open include those at the Whitebreast Recreation Area, Marina Cove and Elk Rock State Park (just off of Highway 14) for lake access, and Howell Station Landing for river access below the dam. Please note that parking areas at the Marina Cove ramp are very limited during times of high water.
The North Overlook and Whitebreast Beaches are closed.
