A large group of Knoxville residents gathered at East Elementary Tuesday evening to say goodbye as its final days of being a school attendance center have come to an end.  Attendees were able to tour the classrooms, which are slowly emptying out in order for the move to grade alike centers at West and North Star.  In addition, students made banners for the event saying goodbye to their school, contents from a time capsule was on display and live music was also available for East students, alumni, parents and supporters to enjoy.

One of the things Principal Mike Montgomery says he thought was interesting is a achievement certificate found that was awarded to Angela VanderHeiden for excellent artwork in 1983, by her 4th grade teacher Mrs. Galeazzi, who at that time was Ms. Sandmeier.  VanderHeiden is now Mrs. Dingeman, a 3rd grade teacher at East. Mrs. Galeazzi currently teaches Kindergarten at East.
