One local 4-H club will be selling lemonade in hopes of finding a cure for childhood cancer. The Whitebreast Beavers 4-H club and Little Beavers Cloverkids is hosting their 2nd annual “Alex’s Lemonade Stand” in Knoxville this weekend. Their goal is to double last year’s contribution total and raise $2,000 for the Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation for Childhood Cancer.

The foundation was started in 2000, when four year-old cancer patient Alexandra Scott of Pennsylvania told her mother she wanted to have a lemonade stand and give the money to the doctors so they could “help other kids, like they helped me”. The mission of the foundation is to raise funds and awareness of the disease and encourage others, especially children, to host hold their own lemonade stands to raise money as well.

The local fundraiser will take place during Ag in the City on the southeast corner of the square Friday from 5-9pm and Saturday in the Hy-Vee parking lot from 10am until 4pm. More information is available on their website www.alexslemonade.org and those who would like to contribute but are unable to attend this weekend’s events can do so here.
